What is the number of the paint? For the VOC oil (acetone based) I pay 10.95 a
gallon, and I was complaining about that. The part number is TM5626 & TM5635. I
dont know how any would pay 6.00 a gallon for the same paint unless you buy
1000 gallons at a time.

Jpanz is right. You can't even buy crummy house paint for $5.85/gallon. I get
rubberized yellow for 9.54/gal. and white for 9.18/gal. from Diamond-Vogel, not
available everywhere, but I'm glad it is here. I've used SW and hated it. This
is up about .40/gal from previous years due to OPEC and the rise in oil prices.

The price I pay for Sherwin Williams paints ranges from $9.50 a gallon to
$10.50. This price range is for white or yellow, oil or water. I do have one
advantage though, I am the only striping company in the area and my dealer wants
to keep me happy. No I know that I can get Diamond Vogel for about $2.00 less
and there is a Paint called Rich paint that is available for about $5.00 to$6.00
a gallon. The Diamond Vogel is just a good a paint, there are just other factors
that stop me from using it. The Rich paint I would not use due to the results
that I have seen from others in the state that use it. You may want to discuss
the price you are paying with your SW manager I know that here the price of
paint can go as low as $8.50 a gallon dependent on the quantity of paint I need
for a Job. As I said though $10.50 is the top of my cost on a day to day base.
Hope this helps Bob

Like some others SW from $8.50-$10.50 depending on the paint. Their red is
substantially higher for some reason so we use another brand. We have a regional
mfgr. in the same price range who makes good paints and they also make a
semi-gloss striping paint which looks great and wears very well for a couple of
dollars more.

Don mentioned that SW makes a semi-gloss striping paint. I'm a firm believer in
chlorinated rubber traffic paint, but this "semi-gloss" might work better for
inside parking garages because the smoother finish might resist scuffs & shed
dirt better -- ANYONE TRIED THIS STUFF?

We have used Pro-Mar Alkyd in place of chlorinated rubber and it's cheaper, but
I think it costs about the same in the long run because it doesn't cover as
well. But it is glossier and stays cleaner in garages.
