We surely thank everyone for any information they provided. But as we clearly explained in our request that the information we were collecting was for a "member's benefit" and went on to explain that eventually the same type things will surely be offered more widely in order to be competitive so it will benefit the entire industry.
At this point we are pleased to announce
the same insurance is now available to all pavement-related contractors as we predicted.
Hopefully you can understand.
For 4 years the NPCA has been working on this. It was one of the 2 primary goals of the association when it was formed although it took almost a year to find anyone who would even talk about it (insurance companies that is).
The entire pavement maintenance industry will benefit, but the contractors who have supported this (and our many other efforts to improve the industry) with their membership were naturally, the initial beneficiaries of this in return for their efforts.
Hopefully some of the contractors who participate here too will get great results and quotes and be talking about it on these forums as well as our forums and you can compare your situation with theirs. And hopefully though sometimes many contractors can't grasp the "big picture" other contractors who have not seen the many benefits of membership will start to open their eyes more. There are many reasons virtually EVERY type industry has an association. Property Manager's associations, hotel operator's associations, car dealer's associations, things like NRF (the National Retail Federation) and on and on. All of which work to better their industries and/or provide benefits to their members. It has become our conclusion that somehow many pavement-related contractors are different than people in other industries and are for some reason not able to grasp the benefits of an industry wide association like the people in almost every other industry do.
Before 2000 there never was an association to work for the benefit of pavement contractors (at that time there were only manufacturer's associations) and there is still no other similar organization, operated by and for the member's benefit. The only thing that has been bewildering is that in the year before the association was formed from our surveys of pavement contractors we developed projections that hundreds of contractors would join immediately and by now membership would be well into the thousands and there would be member representation in every part of the USA, yet many contractors still don't see any benefit to being associated with others in the same industry.
Pavement consumers and customers from residential to commercial flock to our sites and contractor search every year (over 6,000 people searched last year). We get emails and calls daily from consumers of all types thanking us just for "being there", or for whatever type help we provided. Sadly every week we get messages from someone who couldn't find a member listed for the work they needed where they needed it. We even have a special forum we post some of these requests on for anybody to respond to, member or not; yet many are never answered.
That's why it is so strange that we have job listings that are never responded to, but on our other forums just like here people will say "how do you drum up some work in this business?" Or "why is insurance so high and why doesn't somebody do something about it?" and on and on, all the while we never cease to wonder why most often the people asking those questions aren't getting involved in the ONLY association that has ever existed to benefit pavement-related contractors.
We hope you understand. As promised the insurance is now available to all, links will soon be available in the public areas of our site.
