Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place for this message, but here goes. Ken Pritchett (STRIPES) asked me to post it. (He's my husband).
Back in April, Ken was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in his throat. It was at a very early stage and the prognosis is excellent, given the standard treatment. Ken decided he wanted to keep the news private and not tell anyone until it was all over.
However, during treatment he realized the error in that. This is the message he asked me to put on Facebook for him: "At the beginning of this journey with cancer (squamous cell carcinoma in the base of tongue & rt tonsil) I wanted to keep it to myself, so as not to burden anyone. I realize now that the only way I can make it through is with the support of you, my family & friends. I have finished 5 wks of radiation & chemo w/ 2 more to go. Thanks for your thoughts & prayers - please stay in touch."
The standard treatment (7 weeks of daily radiation plus chemo one day in each of those weeks) has been a (expletive). He is so brave and is doing well despite several unforeseen drawbacks. And, at this point we are counting treatments in numbers, not weeks. As of today, only 8 radiation treatments and only 2 chemo treatments are left!
He looks forward to getting back to regular participation here and to seeing some of you again soon. All the best to everyone.
Mary Beth
